Advertising Giants

I really wish these guys could team up and sell me a washer and dryer or fight crime together...

I didn't pretend to know them at all...

I guess Gene Simmons needed even more money.

Video Pirates!

In the 80s, it was a little be easier (but pricey) to hack into the airwaves and while there were several reports of "video pirates," but the two most infamous pirates were Captain Midnight and the Max Headroom pirate of Chicago. Captain Midnight famously broke into the HBO signal and posted the above message during a telecast of The Falcon and the Snowman. Captain Midnight was caught and fined by the FCC and now sells satellite equipment in Florida, you can buy something from him. The Max Headroom of Chicago was never caught, he tapped into a newscast on the Chicago CBS station and then later in the night over took a broadcast of Doctor Who for around 90 seconds. When I first hear about these incidents when they happened, I remember being really creeped out and also amazed by the fact that someone could take over the airwaves and interrupt programming, of course, I would be really impressed if someone did it today on a national scale.

And now, Dan Rather tells you more...

And the actual take over...

Hooray for the Salvation Army Band

This might be a great lost album, but then it might not be. Be sure you listen to the two sample tracks of "Satisfaction" and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (you will swear it is Cosby impersonator at first) found at Frank's Vinyl Museum. Plus there is more info on Bill's singing career here.

Patton Oswalt review from "CAP"

Here is a link to a review of a 1999 Comedy Central presents Patton Oswalt special from a Christian film review site. Apparently, the "sum of the skits on the video tape is mathematically equivalent to R-rated programming" - does the MPAA rate things that way? Wouldn't surprise me.

To see what CAP says about other movies, visit their site here.

Chuck E. Cheese, Phoenix, AZ - 1983

A home video tour (complete with light trails and everything) tour of a Chuck E. Cheese in 1983 - from the parking lot to the manager's office. Be patient with this one, the trip to the office is worth it and then off to the arcade...

Chip the Black Boy

There is only 32 seconds here, but it comes from an entire show...

Freak Out, U.S.A.

Now, why can't this magazine still be around? Where else can you read what Davy Jones has to say about LSD (he doesn't like it, gets high on sugar cubes by the way) in the same magazine with an article about The Fugs? You can download a pdf of the whole issue from this guy here.

Now what's a freak out?

I hate that I have to explain, but I'll do so with a few examples like in your math book...

Clips from cable access religious shows?... that's a freak out

That A-ha video that's part cartoon, part real?... nope, not a freak out.

That Garth Brooks video where the down syndrome kid finishes the race while Brooks wears white and is covered in red paint?.... watch the whole damn thing, it is a freak out!

and now, certified freak outs!
